The European Emergency Number Association EENA awarded a Finnish emergency response centre operator for outstanding work in assisting a person that had fallen through the ice in the wilderness. Finland’s emergency response centres are built around the professionalism of ERC operators and cooperation between authorities, and the case demonstrates the effectiveness of this approach.

The range of services offered by the 112 Suomi mobile app increased on 23 February – conveniently during the International Crime Victims’ Week. The number 116006 of Victim Support Finland was added to the app’s emergency numbers.

As the holiday season approaches, we would like to remind all motorists about the basic safety of holiday traffic to ensure that there are no accidents this Christmas. Fintraffic´s Road Traffic Management, the National Police Board, the Finnish Transport and Communications Agency Traficom, the Ministry of the Interior Department for Rescue Services, the Emergency Response Centre Agency and the Finnish Road Safety Council will look after the safety of holiday traffic again this year and wish everyone a very safe journey.

Over the years, on this official 112 Day, emergency services celebrated their work and reminded citizens of the importance of the European emergency number. This year Eena - the European Emergency Number Association challenges all Europeans to thank security professionals.

In 2008, Europe celebrated its first common 112 Day. The European Commission, together with the European Parliament and European Council, has declared 11 February as European 112 Day to broaden recognition of the emergency number 112 across the EU.
